Airport & Terminal Control Area

Airport and their surrounding terminal airspace constitute often the bottlenecks of the complex airspace network. Adding the growing traffic, a justified special attention is given to these elements of the network to constantly intent to improve their performances in terms of efficient and capacity and at the same time guaranteeing the safety of the operations.

One of the consequences of this shortage of capacity at large airport has been the soar over the last years of the use of secondary airports. These airports have the additional capacity required but lack accessibility (weather…).

Parallel efforts are made to:

  • improve capacity at large near saturation airport both on Air traffic control side and airline side to develop procedures, and adapted infrastructure to improve capacity in near saturated airport (LVP study)
  • improve the accessibility of smaller airport studying the use of the latest technologies (using satellite based approach for example) to provide these terrain with better accessibility at a lower cost. (MIELEC, SINBAD)

ADV Systems contributes to the improvement of safety, capacity and efficiency of operations at airports by bringing its expertise in the following fields:

  • Runway capacity optimisation with procedures based on new technology (e.g. approach using GNSS and alternative navigation aids)
  • Surveillance systems & safety nets including A-SMGCS
  • Aircraft separation: Surveillance and Wake turbulence
  • Impact of visibility conditions on airport airside capacity (best practice operation requirements)
  • Airport integration to network: Airport-CDM, DMEAN, ATM architecture, delay propagation

ADV has also experts participating in airport development projects with airport planners implying the following possible tasks: ATM/ATC feasibility study, Control Tower design including ATC equipments, Terminal airspace design.

Through the various projects, ADV has liaised with actors at the following airports: London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Stockholm Arlanda, Frankfurt main, Brussels National, Vienna Airport, Amsterdam Schipol, Prague Ruzyne, Manchester, Munich, Toulouse, Bordeaux Cairo, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Doha, Jeddah.
